Dog and Scone is North East England’s first dog café - a café with a number of resident canines for visitors to play with. Owners Shi Shi and Rainbow Noi were inspired to open the cafe June 2017 when the pair were students, and found it difficult to rent a house that allowed pets. Thinking of a job in which their dogs could come to work with them, and realising others who can’t keep pets would like a place to play with pooches, the idea of the café was born.
An Opayo and Elavon customer since July 2020, the café is located in Newcastle, and bookings to visit are made online and require a small deposit.
Visitors to Dog and Scone have to pre-book and pay a £2 deposit, so the business has hundreds of transactions each month. Before switching to Opayo and Elavon, the owner’s previous online payments provider charged extra if the business went above the transactions per month cap, which was a monthly occurrence. The added costs drove Shi Shi and Rainbow to a Google search to find an alternative provider. After doing their research they settled on Opayo and Elavon.
As well as enabling Shi Shi and Rainbow to take payments online simply and fast, the Opayo online gateway is also token-enabled, a function that allows returning customers to save their card details for the next time they check out. This is particularly useful for reducing drop offs at the checkout and building loyalty.
“We’ve had a really good experience since joining Opayo and Elavon,” Shi Shi says.
“I would recommend them to any of my friends who need an online payment service.”
